Embracing Reiki: Healing Through Your Own Energy

Updated: Nov 12, 2024

Hello, beautiful souls,

Today, we’re diving into a healing practice close to my heart: Reiki. If you’ve ever felt the deep connection yoga can create—between breath, mind, and body—Reiki will feel like a natural extension of that experience. It taps into our universal life force energy, inviting balance, clarity, and healing, both physically and emotionally.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) comes from Japan and means “universal life force energy.” Founded in the early 20th century by Dr. Mikao Usui, Reiki is based on the belief that we all have this universal energy flowing within us, connecting us to each other and to everything around us. When this energy flows freely, it supports our natural healing processes, enhances our well-being, and brings us into harmony. But when energy becomes blocked—through stress, emotional traumas, or even physical pain—it can leave us feeling stuck, out of balance, or even ill.

This is where Reiki can work its magic. Through gentle touch (or even from afar with distance Reiki), a practitioner channels this healing energy to help clear blockages, release stress, and restore balance in the body, mind, and spirit.

Clearing Energy Blockages and Releasing Stored Emotions

One of the most powerful aspects of Reiki is its ability to release what no longer serves us—those stuck emotions and traumas that get stored in our bodies over time. Many of us unconsciously hold onto pain, sadness, or resentment, which can create energetic “clogs” that weigh us down. By helping clear these blockages, Reiki allows us to release and heal old wounds. You might even experience emotional releases during a session, like feeling lighter or having a sense of deep peace after the session.

I’ve seen this healing in action with clients from all walks of life. For example, veterans struggling with PTSD have found Reiki to be an incredible source of calm, helping ease some of the trauma that remains in their energy fields. And for women experiencing pregnancy, Reiki offers a beautiful way to nurture both mother and baby, encouraging peace and balance as their bodies go through this profound transformation.

The Beauty of Distance Reiki

One of Reiki’s gifts is that it isn’t bound by physical space. I can send healing energy to clients across the world—whether to help them through relationship challenges, work stress, or personal growth. This distance healing is every bit as effective as in-person Reiki, and I’m continually amazed by the powerful results clients report. Energy doesn’t know distance, and Reiki reminds us that healing is a deeply connected, universal experience.

What to Expect During a Reiki Session

If you’re curious about what a session feels like, imagine yourself lying comfortably as gentle, calming energy flows around you, almost like a warm, comforting blanket. You may feel tingling, warmth, or a sense of lightness as the Reiki energy works through you. Some people experience a deep calm, while others feel energy moving in specific areas. However it shows up for you, Reiki is always working in harmony with your body, mind, and spirit to bring you exactly what you need.

Who Can Benefit from Reiki?

Honestly, anyone and everyone! Whether you’re looking for physical relief, emotional healing, or a way to deepen your spiritual journey, Reiki meets you right where you are. Clients have come to me seeking peace after a loss, grounding during periods of anxiety, and even support for navigating relationship issues. The beauty of Reiki is that it’s gentle yet powerful, personal yet universal.

If you’ve practiced yoga, you already have a sense of the power of breath and movement in connecting you to yourself. Reiki is much the same—by tuning into our life force energy, we can let go of what’s weighing us down and create a space for more love, joy, and peace to enter.

Ready to Experience Reiki?

If you’re feeling called to try Reiki, trust that intuition! Whether you’re looking to release old emotions, find balance, or simply experience a little peace, Reiki offers a gentle, transformative path. It’s a reminder that healing doesn’t always have to be hard; sometimes, it’s about allowing ourselves to receive the love and light that’s already there.
